So I managed to build my first rig - with a PCI-Express and Radeon X1800XT running on it. Took me about 3 days of what felt like walking through a mine field. Far Cry looks amazing with settings maxed out, but I still can’t get F.E.A.R to run at max settings - I probably need GeForce 7900 SLI for that. If I’m going SLI, it might be better for me to return my radeon card and buy a GeForce but I got it on newegg for 300 bucks and I know GeForce 7900 can cost up to 400+ which I don’t feel like shelling out for. I’m already out a grand. FEAR still looks pretty good, lowest framerate around 28 if I jack up AA and AF but enabling v-sync seems to help. Now I just need to figure out how to get Oblivion, Doom 3, Half Life 2 and other gfx intensive stuff without shelling out 50 bucks per title. Ya, I know, I’m behind on my games. I used to be addicted to MMORPGs like Anarchy Online, which sucked, but I still played it till I got my trader up to level 200 - which was the highest level at the time. I even had a Quality 200 Lightscope which I DIDN’T sell on ebay but instead gave away to a guildmate. Now how dumb is that? People selling 1 mil creds for fifty bucks, I probably could have gotten at least a couple hundred bucks for it, but I’m just a giving type of guy. It’s one of those “nice guys finish last” crosses I carry around on my back.
